Volvo and Polestar EVs Now Gain Access to Tesla's Supercharger Network
Nov 1, 2024
Owners of Volvo and Polestar electric vehicles (EVs) have reason to celebrate as these Swedish automakers announce that their EVs will soon be compatible with Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network across the United States and Canada.
Starting mid-November, existing Volvo and Polestar EV owners can purchase $230 adapter cables to access over 17,800 Tesla Supercharger stations. Meanwhile, new buyers of the 2025 EX90, EX40, or EC40 models from Volvo will receive an adapter included with their purchase.
This partnership reflects the industry’s pivot toward Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) as a universal fast-charging solution. Ford, GM, Rivian, and others have also committed to adopting NACS, either via adapters or by integrating Tesla’s connector into their upcoming EV models. Despite early challenges like delayed shipments and quality issues, opening the Supercharger network to non-Tesla EVs is seen as a significant step forward, offering seamless integration, reliability, and extensive coverage.
Volvo and Polestar are also updating their navigation systems to display real-time Supercharger availability and payment options, making charging even more convenient for EV owners.
As the EV industry advances, this shift toward a shared fast-charging standard marks a major step in making EV charging accessible and efficient for all drivers, regardless of their vehicle brand.
