Ford and LG Shift Mustang Mach-E Battery Production to the U.S.

Nov 1, 2024

Ford and LG Energy Solution have relocated battery production for the Mustang Mach-E from Poland to Michigan. This strategic move positions Ford to take advantage of U.S. tax incentives and address the rising demand for electric vehicles in the American market.

Additionally, LG will supply Ford with 109 GWh of batteries for commercial electric vans in Europe starting in 2026. This multi-year agreement aims to solidify Ford's foothold in the European EV market.

“These agreements underscore our commitment to high-efficiency battery technology designed to meet the rigorous demands of commercial vehicles,” said David Kim, CEO of LG Energy Solution. “With our local production capabilities, we’ll bolster our leadership in Europe and deliver exceptional value to our customers.”

Relocating production to Michigan enables Ford to benefit from the U.S. Clean Vehicle Tax Credit, which provides a rebate of up to $7,500 for eligible electric vehicles.
