The import of electric cars in Georgia has doubled
Sep 9, 2024
In the first half of 2024, 1,860 electric cars were imported into Georgia, doubling the number from the same period in the previous year. The total value of these imports amounted to $37 million, according to information disseminated by National Statistical Service of Georgia.
The average price of an electric car imported into Georgia this year was $20,000, which is 30% less than last year’s average import price of $28,600.
According to the statistics, Georgia imported electric cars from the following countries this year:
USA: 872 cars, $15 million, average price $17,000
China: 448 cars, $12 million, average price $27,000
Germany: 67 cars, $4 million, average price $63,000
Japan: 371 cars, $2.4 million, average price $6,600
Belgium: 26 cars, $1.1 million, average price $45,000
The lowest average import price is from Japan at $6,600, largely due to the high share of used cars in these imports. The USA also has a significant share of used cars. In contrast, the relatively high average import price of $63,000 from Germany is attributed to the larger number of new cars. Similarly, Georgia predominantly imports new electric cars from China.
