Mercedes-Benz and BMW Launch “IONCHI” EV Charging Network in China
Oct 29, 2024
Mercedes-Benz and BMW have officially introduced their joint electric vehicle (EV) charging network, IONCHI, in China. The first seven locations have opened, with four stations in Beijing and additional sites in Qingdao and Nanjing.
IONCHI’s charging network boasts liquid-cooled, fast-charging stations that can deliver up to 600kW of power, operating between 200 to 1,000V and handling up to 800 amperes, allowing an 80% charge in just 10 minutes. The stations feature lightweight charging cables, 30% lighter than traditional options, and include covered parking areas. Conveniently located near commercial centers, they offer a premium experience integrated with the Mercedes-Benz app.
The network also includes exclusive features for Mercedes and BMW customers, like Plug&Charge and advance reservations. However, the stations will remain open to all EV brands. By the end of 2026, IONCHI aims to expand to 1,000 locations with 7,000 charging points across 100 Chinese cities.
