Ford's New Electric Pickup Truck: A "Game Changer" in the Fight Against Chinese Competitors

Oct 31, 2024

Ford Motor Company's CEO has announced that the upcoming mid-size electric pickup truck will be a "game changer," competing directly with Chinese automakers like BYD. Since February, a dedicated Ford team, led by former Tesla Model Y engineer Alan Clarke, has been developing a new, cost-effective platform for future electric models. The first vehicle based on this platform—a mid-size electric pickup with enhanced range and off-road capabilities—is expected to launch at the end of 2027.

Ford has confirmed that this new electric pickup will directly compete with BYD's Shark PHEV, which debuted in Mexico in May.

To reduce costs, Ford also plans to produce LFP batteries in Michigan starting in 2026.
