Audi and SAIC's First EV to Launch in 2025
Oct 1, 2024
In 2025, Audi and SAIC will present their first jointly developed electric vehicle to the Chinese market. This new battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be officially unveiled in November 2024.
SAIC, China's largest state-owned automaker, is known for owning the former British brand MG. However, its primary revenue comes from partnerships with foreign automakers. Currently, SAIC collaborates with Volkswagen and GM, in addition to managing its own electric vehicle brands, such as Rising Auto and IM Motors.
About the Audi and SAIC Electric Car
News of the Audi-SAIC collaboration first emerged in 2023. Early reports suggested that the new EV would be built on the iO Origin platform developed by IM Motors, a joint venture between SAIC and Alibaba. However, in May 2024, Audi officially confirmed that the new electric cars would be constructed on the Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP), marking a significant improvement over Audi's older PPE platform.
According to Deutsche Welle China, the first Audi-SAIC electric car will be a mid-size EV. Interestingly, the new BEV will not feature Audi’s traditional four-ring logo, distinguishing these China-made models from those produced in Germany.
