The New Chevrolet Silverado EV to Feature GMC's Innovative CrabWalk Mode
Nov 4, 2024
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV will introduce its own version of GMC's innovative CrabWalk mode, a feature that was missing from the 2024 model. Chevy has named this diagonal motion feature "Sidewinder mode," a trademark General Motors registered in 2022. While the name differs from GMC's CrabWalk, the functionality is identical. Sidewinder mode utilizes the Silverado EV's rear-axle steering to turn all four wheels simultaneously, enabling the vehicle to move diagonally at speeds of up to 32 km/h.
Diagonal drive mode first appeared in the GMC Hummer EV as CrabWalk, followed by the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1—GMC's equivalent to the Silverado EV RST First Edition. This feature is also expected in the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ, where it will be branded as Cadillac Arrival Mode.
