The Myth of Expensive Electric Car Maintenance
Oct 25, 2024
The belief that maintaining an electric car is expensive is a myth. Shortly after its invention, the electric car was dubbed the "car of the future" for several reasons: it is eco-friendly and produces no emissions; and compared to a car with an internal combustion engine (ICE), it has far fewer parts that can break down. For instance, an electric car doesn’t have an engine, meaning it also lacks fuel supply and engine cooling systems. It requires minimal amounts of polluting fluids like engine oil and coolant. Instead of a gearbox, it uses a "reducer," which consists of only a few gears. These facts challenge the common misconception that maintaining an electric car is costly.
Auto Gallery, part of Tegeta Cars, has launched a campaign to address myths surrounding electric cars, aiming to raise public awareness and correct these misconceptions.
"Compared to an internal combustion engine, an electric car has far fewer parts that wear out quickly. While an internal combustion engine contains up to 70,000 parts, an electric car has no more than 30,000 parts. This makes monthly maintenance much easier and more economical," - says Levan Taghiashvili, marketing manager of Auto Gallery.
He adds, "Even the tires on an electric car wear out less. The car uses regenerative braking to recharge, which reduces brake force and minimizes wear on the brake pads. You don’t need to change oil or maintain an engine, which offers significant financial benefits."
