The EU and China Continue Negotiating Alternatives to EV Tariffs
Oct 28, 2024
The European Union and China have agreed to continue technical discussions on potential alternatives to tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles. This information was jointly released by the European Commission and China's Ministry of Commerce.
With the European Union set to impose additional tariffs of up to 35.3% next week due to an anti-subsidy investigation into electric cars produced in China, both sides are prepared to explore other options following the implementation of these tariffs. Alternatives under consideration include minimum price commitments from Chinese producers or potential investments in Europe as substitutes for the tariffs.
"The parties agreed that additional technical negotiations will be held in the near future," noted the European Commission.
The European Commission, which oversees the trade policy of the 27 EU countries, has already conducted eight rounds of technical negotiations with the Chinese side.
