Oct 22, 2024

The 2024 Paris Auto Show, Europe’s largest automotive event, concluded on October 20. Featuring more than 50 global and European premieres, this year’s show centered on the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, as leading automakers unveiled their latest models. A key focus of the event was the intensifying competition between European and Chinese manufacturers vying for dominance in the EV market.

European automakers are ramping up efforts to counter the growing influence of Chinese brands, which are making inroads into the European market with affordable and technologically advanced models.

Among the European leaders is Renault, which stood out with its retro-inspired Renault 4 E-Tech. The Renault 4 E-Tech offers two battery options (40 or 52 kWh) and a 150 hp engine, aiming to appeal to a wider audience. Renault also unveiled the Alpine A390 Beta concept, an electric fastback positioned to compete with luxury models such as the Porsche Macan and Tesla Model Y. Additionally, Renault plans to launch the all-electric Twingo E-Tech in 2026. Other notable concepts include the Embleme crossover, the Estafette electric van, and the retro-inspired R17 coupe.

Citroën introduced the second-generation C5 Aircross, focusing on aerodynamic efficiency. The model offers various powertrain options, including fully electric, hybrid, and internal combustion engines. Citroën also showcased updated versions of the C4 and fully electric Ami, as well as the new C3 Aircross, a small crossover on the Stellantis Smart Car platform with a unique 7-seater option in its class. Meanwhile, Peugeot, another Stellantis brand, unveiled the electric 408 coupe-style crossover.

Volkswagen revealed the 7-seater Tayron SUV, which will replace the Tiguan Allspace in Europe. The Tayron underscores Volkswagen’s commitment to hybrids, offering a variety of plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid options and positioning it as a competitor to the Kia Sorento. In the high-end segment, Audi introduced the Q6 E-tron Sportback, a coupe-style electric sedan following the recent launch of the Q6 E-tron crossover. Audi also unveiled the A6 E-tron electric sedan and the new-generation Q5 crossover.
