Panasonic Energy, a major supplier to Tesla, has completed preparations to begin mass production of high-capacity electric vehicle batteries. The company announced plans to start supplying these advanced batteries to automakers in the near future.

The renovated Panasonic plant in Japan will serve as the main production site for the new 4680 battery cells, which boast five times the capacity of the smaller 2170 cylindrical batteries. These high-capacity batteries will enable car manufacturers to extend the driving range of electric vehicles.

Panasonic is also expanding its production footprint in the United States, with plans to build a second factory in Kansas next year.
