Mercedes to Introduce a New S-Class EV to Replace EQS Sedan

Sep 11, 2024

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius has confirmed that the EQS electric sedan will not continue into a second generation. Instead, the next-generation S-Class lineup will include both electric and internal-combustion engine (ICE) variants, similar to BMW's approach with its 5- and 7-Series sedans.

According to a new report by Autocar, Mercedes will sell two versions of the S-Class simultaneously: one powered by an internal-combustion engine and the other as a fully electric model. Although these models will share similar exterior and interior designs, they will not be built on the same platform. The electric S-Class will use a dedicated EV architecture, while the ICE version will continue on an updated MRA platform.

Both the new electric and combustion-powered S-Class models are expected to debut around 2030.
