Mercedes-AMG to Make History with Its First Independently Designed Super Electric SUV
Nov 8, 2024
Mercedes-AMG is set to take a historic step with its first full-size, stand-alone electric SUV, crafted as a luxury vehicle with off-road capabilities. This model represents a significant milestone for AMG as its first independently developed electric SUV in the company’s 57-year history, with the debut test drive scheduled for this summer. Built entirely on AMG's high-performance AMG.EA platform, this SUV aims to redefine standards for electric SUVs and elevate AMG’s legendary performance to new heights.
Renowned for its high-performance SUVs like the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, and EQE series, Mercedes-AMG is now preparing to add this full-size electric SUV to its lineup. Positioned as the successor to the electric 4-door GT coupe, the SUV’s design and architecture are entirely AMG-developed, distinguishing it from models like the EQS and emphasizing AMG’s commitment to innovation and excellence in electromobility.
The new SUV is equipped with Mercedes’ proprietary Yasa advanced technology, featuring axle-flux motors. Mercedes-AMG expects this model to compete with forthcoming electric SUV offerings from Porsche and BMW, such as the Cayenne EV.
